ABOUT THE BIOCHEMISTRY ASSOCIATION

Welcome Comets,
The Biochemistry Association at UT Dallas is a nonprofit, scientific, student-run organization. Our mission is to help members develop knowledge in biochemistry and the sciences, as well as to aid in students' preparation for all post-undergraduate careers. We help our members by inviting speakers such as top researchers and industry professionals, introducing opportunities for students to participate in labs and internships, and providing social events where science-minded students can network and have fun. Ultimately, our goal is to help prepare our members for their future endeavors, whatever they may be.

Professor Darcy earned her B.S., Biochemistry, and Biology at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2003. Afterward, she traveled to the United Kingdom to work for her Ph.D. in Structural Biology at the University of Cambridge. After she received her Ph.D. in 2008, Professor Darcy came to America and became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Colorado State University in the US. Finally in the Spring of 2016 became a comet where she heads her own research lab while teaching Biochemistry.

Katayoun is a graduate student in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She earned her B.S. in Biochemistry in 2018 and is a third-year Ph.D. student in the D’Arcy Lab at UT Dallas. She is a mom to her corgi puppy named Roya. In her spare time, she loves to craft, cook, and read.

Julia grew up in Westfield, Indiana, and is currently getting her degree in Biology. She worked in Dr. D’Arcy’s lab since starting in the summer of 2018 as a Clark Summer Research student. After receiving her undergraduate degree in 2022, she plans to go to medical school. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, and trying many different types of food in the DFW area.

Hi! I'm Trenton. I am a Junior Biochemistry major at UTD. I joined the BA as a freshman in 2019 to connect with others in research. You can find me tutoring either General and Organic Chemistry at the SSC, or look up our research at the D'Arcy Lab where I volunteer. This year I work for the BA as your Research Coordinator, bringing students and professors together to find your research!

My name is Pavan Tauh and I am a Junior studying Biology. I worked in Dr. Engineer’s Auditory Cortical Plasticity Lab starting in the summer of 2018 and continuing this year. I work towards becoming a doctor in the future and practicing surgery. I am originally from Los Angeles, California, and enjoy photography, hiking, and skateboarding.

I am currently VP of Recruitment for Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority inc. here at UT Dallas and am excited to share my experiences of being a pre-med student in a sorority. My hobbies include: baking, doing puzzles, and playing video games!
